Prereferral Activities

Two weeks after school began, After Kim was reported to be doing poorly in Mathematics.  Mrs. Jones requested an informal preferral assessment. Mrs. Jones reported that Kim was miscalculating and not interesting in her assignments.

 

Referral and initial planning

Mrs. Jones met with Kim’s mother to discuss her work in Mathematics. After speaking with her mother, Mrs. Jones submitted the referral to the special education teacher. Classroom observation, conference with student, psychological reports, level of academic achievement and measures were used.

 

Multidisciplinary evaluation

The case conference meeting

The case conference team met and included the following participants: the general education teacher, the school psychologist, the special education coordinator, her parents and Kim

 

 

Implementing the teaching plan

The teacher has developed more specific plans to meet the objective written in her IEP.

 

 

Monitoring the student’s progress

The teacher will evaluate her progress on a weekly basis
